Youth Officer

Under the Youth work Act 2001, a Youth Officer was appointed to Dún Laoghaire VEC and is actively involved in the development and co-ordination of Youth work services and programmes as provided for in the Youth work Act 2001

The Dún Laoghaire VEC Youth Officer has responsibility for the co-ordination of Youth Services and the provision of supports to those services in the Dún Laoghaire VEC administrative region. The Youth Officer promotes Youth Work for all young people by engaging with a range of youth organisations and by using quality standards in youth work practice while working in partnership with the statutory, community and voluntary organizations.

Youth Work Act 2001

Under the terms of the Youth Work Act 2001, Dún Laoghaire VEC has a statutory obligation to ensure the provision of youth work programmes and services in the county.

Functions of Dún Laoghaire VEC include:

  • Providing assistance, including administration of grants to youth work organisations
  • Preparation and implementation of the Youth Work Development Plan
  • Co-ordination of youth work programmes and services
  • Establish a Voluntary Youth Council for the area
  • Establish a Youth Committee to advise and make recommendations to the VEC on the performance of its Youth work functions.
