The Willows was opened in June 2001 to provide quality childcare for children of students who qualify for a VTOS or Youthreach programme operated by Dún Laoghaire VEC. It is funded by the Department of Education and Science. Parents pay a weekly contribution towards costs.
The Centre has facilities for up to 32 children from the age of 1 yr. to 10 years. It provides full and part-time care.
The Willows Dún Laoghaire VEC Childcare Centre is committed to supporting and celebrating the individual needs of each child in a safe, caring, developmentally appropriate environment where an atmosphere of warmth and consistency is encouraged so children can express themselves freely, be enthusiastic about learning and develop confidence in their abilities and their potential.
The Willows endeavours to create an atmosphere of warmth and respect so that the children, parents and staff interact in a friendly, supportive and positive manner. It aims to create an environment of open communication and belonging thereby making The Willows a pleasant facility to visit or attend.
The Willows has adopted the N.C.N.A.'s (National Children's Nurseries Association) code of Ethics for Childcare Services.
The Willows Childcare Centre recognises the huge potential of the Pre-school Child and knows that early childhood is the foundation on which they build the rest of their lives. It recognises too, that the early years is a stage in itself, that children have a natural instinct to play, learn, explore and discover and need to be given the time and space to do just that. This is done in a fun, enjoyable, safe and non-pressurised way. It acknowledges that individual children learn in different ways.
The Willows Childcare Centre is committed to developing programmes for each age group. Programmes are child-centred and recognise that everything the children do in their day is a learning experience or a learning opportunity.
Places are offered to children of eligible parents on a first come, first served basis in each age group.
