Laura O'Neill, Hester Casey, Cassia Dos Santos ("WideEyed Media"), full time students on the Graduate Diploma in Interactive Media course at Senior College Dun Laoghaire have won the coveted "Best Overall Film" award at the Digital Film Competition 2009/2010 hosted by the Digital Hub. Their film entitled "Draw the Line" was produced and directed by the students. Theatrical Media Make Up students, Martina Byrne and Amanda Conlon, assisted with the production by providing their creative make up artistry skills. "Draw the Line" was also nominated for the categories of Best Concept, Best Film and Best Production and scooped the Best Production award. This competition is open to all third level students aged over 18. Entries to the competition are judged on originality, artistic ability and message interpretation. Ten films were shortlisted from the entries received. The results of the competition were announced on Thursday 29th April at the DARE2BDRINKAWARE awards at the Digital Hub. The DARE2BDRINKAWARE competition is aimed at highlighting young people’s attitudes to alcohol. The competition is a joint project between MEAS (Mature Enjoyment of Alcohol in Society)and the Digital Hub, to utilise digital media to increase awareness of alcohol misuse. "Draw the Line" highlights that the age at which children start to drink gets lower and lower every year, heavily influenced by all members of the family. It gives a glimpse into the ever-present availability and usage of drink in a typical family of today’s Ireland and leaves one wondering, if the young member of the family will follow in the footsteps of his family. Congratulations to the Interactive Media staff and the students on this great achievement.
