The Audit sub-committee is composed of five members. This committee is responsible to the VEC for monitoring the Executive in carrying out of its functions and it provides assurance to the committee as to the adequacy and effectiveness of the internal control processes. The committee holds a minimum of two meetings each year.
The Finance sub-committee is composed of five members. It meets at least four times during the year. It has responsibility for reviewing the income/expenditure of the VEC, for major contracts and for the financial aspects of the education and service plans.
This sub-committee has overall responsibility for ensuring that an effective system of internal financial control is maintained and operated. The minutes of the Finance sub-committee are made available to all VEC members.
The Education Act (1998) makes provision for the establishment of Boards of Management in all schools in receipt of public funding and gives students, teachers and patrons the legal right to be involved in the management of the colleges. Each College has established a BOM in accordance with the guidelines identified in the 2001 VEC Amendment Act. The members of the BOM have a reserved function of governance and each BOM reports to the CEO.
The Willows Board of Management was established to manage the Centre on behalf of and in co-operation with the VEC. Board members are composed of staff and parent representatives together with representatives of service providers that use the centre and non-VEC partners who support Dún Laoghaire VEC childcare services.
The Dún Laoghaire VEC Adult Education Board comprises of key staff from within the Service, two representatives from the VEC together with representatives from a range of organisations and groups that work in close partnership with the Adult & Community Based Education Service. Four meetings of the Board are held on an annual basis. Board meetings provide an opportunity to share information on the work of the Service and a forum for discussion on relevant issues which inform the work and direction of the Service.
The function of the Dún Laoghaire VEC Youth Grant Sub-committee is to approve Youth Grant applications that are received through the Local Voluntary Youth Club Grant and the Dormant Accounts Equipment Grant. The Committee is made up of eight members with representation by the VEC, Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, the Dún Laoghaire VEC Youth Officer and the Local Neighbourhood Youth Project.
